Come and meet our colony of darkling beetles. These fascinating creatures are considered pests in most of the world but we don’t like to call them that (it hurts their feelings). We call them snacks instead.

Baby mealworm beetles called larva are a favourite crunchy snack for animals and humans alike.

Our mealworm session will give you an opportunity to learn about the amazing life cycle of these little nutritious numbers, following their life stages of egg, larva, pupa and adult. It will also give you an opportunity to differentiate between the yellow mealworm at native species of beetle

You will be able to handle them, study them, draw them, and for any Klause Schwab’s among you, even eat them!
